Bajirao Mastani - Music Review

One of the finest musical orchestral arrangement by one of the blockbuster music director, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, has created a Maharashtrian ambiance, choruses with traditional Marathi verse. The orchestration and vocals are the most significant parts of this album, with a massive wave of traditional Indian instruments used in his score.

Deewani Mastani - It starts off with a marathi folk rendition as it flows into the hands of Shreya Ghoshal's lead segment. This, to me, is the highlight of the song. Her rendition is so flawless and beautiful accompanied by Mandolin-laden arrangement. It ends with a Qawwali bit.

Aayat - Would you ever doubt Arijit's singing? A pensive melody Aayat starts off with Arijit's stellar singing, surely competes to standout. As the song proceeds, it moves to a Qawwali-type of digression which suits the orchestration but I am not so positive about having it there.

Malhari - It starts off with a type of orchestration which I feel doesn't go so good with the genre of the movie. It sounds contemporary unlike the movie. But otherwise, a perfect combo of energy with a percussion-heavy orchestration.

Mohe Rang Do Laal - Yet another beautiful Hindustani mixed Carnatic track by Shreya Ghoshal. By far, my most favorite. Such a fascinating arrangement of the Indian Classical instruments with a wonderful composition in Pantuvarali raag amidst kathak bols.

Aaj Tohe Jaane Na Doongi - A feel good musical composition. But not a song I would pick on the soundtrack. Singers had perfect rendition of the song.

Pinga - A mix of multiple dance genres, and older desi songs. Pinga is that type of a song which has a usual orchestration.

Aaj Ibaadat - When the song started off, I was like wow! that is the type of orchestration with the perfect use of sitar, a fantastic melody in yaman raag. Oh! not to forget, equal credit goes to the singers for an amazing rendition.

Fitoori - A folk composition. I probably am not a big fan of folk songs and I feel folk is not something that suits a historical movie genre. Good for a one-time hear.

Gajanana - A tribute to Lord Ganesha, by Sukhwinder Singh, starts off with rendition of Ganesh Aarti. A perfect energizer with a beautiful tribute.

Overall, the musical score was a perfect package with fascinating orchestration which was beyond grandeur type, a type that perfectly suits an Indian historical Genre of a movie.

Music Rating - 9/10

My favorites - Mohe Rang Do Laal, Aaj Ibaadat, Deewani Mastani
