Your Music Choices Can Predict Your Personality!!!
As I walk to the university everyday, I see almost everybody walking with their headphones on, with their choice of music playing in their ears. Oh! this isn't true just for the people who walk, but also for people who travel by car, music that plays in the cars help them travel longer distances with lesser strain felt.
But have any of you ever noticed? Each of us have a specific choice of music and that's something we call the taste. I was curious to know how this variety in the choice of music could actually determine the personality of the person.
Let me walk you through a few genres of music!
Check out your choice of music!!!
Also, we would love to know if the description here matched your personality!
- Blues - High self-esteem, creative, outgoing, gentle
- Jazz - High self-esteem, creative, outgoing

- Rap - High self-esteem, outgoing
- Opera - High self-esteem, creative, gentle
- Country - Hardworking, outgoing
- Reggae - High self-esteem, creative, outgoing, not hardworking
- Dance - Creative, outgoing, not gentle
- Indie - Low self-esteem, creative, not gentle
- Bollywood - creative, outgoing
- Rock/Heavy metal - Low self-esteem, creative, not hardworking, not outgoing
Note: This is presented based on the study conducted at the Heriot-Watt University using the major five personality traits (openness to experience, extra version, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability)
Musical activities can also alter the personality. Here are a few of such interesting facts!
1. Music Training can significantly improve our reasoning skills
There was a study which showed that children who had three years or more musical instrumental training, performed better on vocabulary and non verbal reasoning, which involved understanding and analyzing visual information than those who had less or no instrumental training.
2. Classical Music can improve visual attention
Stroke patients showed an improved visual attention while listening to classical music according to a study apart from its benefit to kids who are exposed to classical music.
3. Music helps us exercise
I am sure most of you would have experienced this. Almost everybody in a gym would be listening to music while they exercise and it has been proven that music helps exercise.
But why so?
This happens because listening to music can drown out our brain's cries of fatigue. As our body realizes we're tired and wants to stop exercising, it sends signals to the brain to stop for a break. But listening to music competes for our brain's attention, and helps us override those signals of fatigue.
Take this one with a grain of salt, because it's from varied sources of study but I felt them really interesting and wanted to share it with y'all.
I hope all of you liked it too!!!
